Out of Richard Ramirez’s victims, only one teenager Whitney Bennett survived. Richard Ramirez had brutally attacked Whitney Bennett. After Whitney Bennett escaped from Richard Ramirez, she developed a relationship with a detective family.
Richard broke into Whitney Bennett’s home and attacked her
It was evening that day and after meeting some friends, 16-year-old Whitney Bennett went to sleep in her bedroom. That night, Richard Ramirez broke open Whitney Bennett’s window with a tire iron.
When Richard Ramirez broke into Whitney Bennett’s home through the window, he struck Whitney Bennett in the head and then went into Whitney Bennett’s kitchen to find a knife. When Richard found nothing in the kitchen, he tried to strangle Whitney Bennett with a telephone cord. Then Richard thought the telephone cord was a spark and dropped the cord and fled. Whitney Bennett began coughing and gasping for breath.
Whitney Bennett screamed for her parents and when they came into the room, they found Whitney Bennett beaten and covered in blood. Richard left his tire iron and some blood marks in Whitney Bennett’s room. Richard boasted to Whitney Bennett that Whitney Bennett had 500 stitches on her head and had to undergo cosmetic surgery before she was able to fully recover.
Three years after the attack, Whitney Bennett testified against Richard in court about her assault. Some details of her head injuries remained unclear in her testimony. Richard was found guilty of 13 murders and 11 counts of sexual assault. Richard was hanged on 7 June 2013. The court sentenced Richard to death based on Whitney Bennett’s testimony.

Whitney Bennett was helped in bringing Richard to justice by Frank Sorlano, one of the Los Angeles detectives. Frank Sorlano served in the police force for 30 years. In August 1993, Frank Sorlano’s squad held a party to celebrate his military retirement. A lot of people attended the party. Whitney Bennett was also a part of the party. After some time, both of them started liking each other and started dating each other. After some time, both of them got married.
